Tragedy!

The Boston Herald reports that an SUV crashed into a Dunkin' Donuts, sending some folks to the hospital.

Please tell me the donuts survived.

Fight Childhood Obesity - With Donuts!

Thank you, Birmingham, for this.

And thank you Probably Bad News for bringing it to our attention.

Dynamo!

My brother sent me a link to yet another wonderful donut place I cannot patronize because I live on the wrong coast. Grrr.

But truly I tell you, Dynamo Donuts looks like the real deal. It's in San Francisco and they have daily donut specials and I mean just look at that lovely photo of a cup of creamy, frothy coffee on the front page of their site.

Oh man. I need to go there. Maybe I'll start by following them on the twitter.

End of today's sermon.

Designer Donuts

Mint mojito.

Pomegranate thyme.

Bing cherry balsamic.

Lemon chamomile creme custard.

Designer donuts are the next big thing, shoving cupcakes back into kids' lunchboxes where they belong. Or so reports Caryn Rousseau of the AP. I say, bring it on!

Let's go crazy out there. Let's get Tang donuts. And Crunch Berries. And, well, let's brainstorm.
Any other ideas...?

Donut Paradise

The other day I got a chance to watch Donut Paradise, a Travel channel special.

By the end of the hour-long show, I needed a towel to mop up the puddle of drool.

Travelogue style, the show visited several (in)famous donut shops across the country, including Cafe du Monde, where I spent New Year's morning for several years in a row. Starting out with a fresh plate of beignets and a steaming cafe au lait made each year just a little better. Sure, they're not (strictly speaking) donuts, but they are warm and tasty and covered with powdered sugar and if you haven't had them you HAVE NOT LIVED.

The special also visited Portland's Voodoo Doughnuts which just made me more ashamed that I've never been there.

Truly worth an hour (or less with TiVo) of your time. Watch it and, afterward, I dare you not to rush off to your local purveyor of fine donuts.

Haiku Sequence

Alone in the dark
gentle rumble arises
I need a donut

Donuton the plate
circular pastry of love
fill me with your goo

Sugar on my lips
remnants of a sweet donut
remind me of you
